Cash App Settlement: Deadline Approaches for Eligible Users to Claim Up to $147
Cash App Settlement: Deadline Approaches for Eligible Users to Claim Up to $147

If you lived in Washington and received unsolicited Cash App referral text messages between November 2019 and August 2025, you may be eligible for up to $147 from a $12.5 million settlement. To claim, submit your phone number and proof of residency by October 27. Payments will be issued after the final court approval on December 2.

Residents of Washington who received promotional text messages linked to Cash App’s referral programme may qualify for a compensation payment of up to $147. The payment comes as part of a legal settlement between Block Inc., the company that owns Cash App, and individuals who claimed they received unsolicited marketing texts encouraging them to join or promote the app.

Although Block Inc. denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to a financial settlement to resolve the dispute and avoid further litigation.

Why the settlement exists

The case focuses on Cash App’s “Invite Friends” referral feature. Users were encouraged to send invitations to contacts, which resulted in promotional text messages being delivered to phone numbers that, according to the lawsuit, did not provide consent to receive such messages.

The complaint argued that this violated Washington State laws related to consumer protection and unwanted commercial texts. To close the matter, Block Inc. has agreed to a $12.5 million settlement fund that will be distributed among eligible claimants.

Who is eligible to claim?

You may be entitled to receive compensation if the following apply:

  • You lived in Washington State at the time you received the message.
  • You received an unsolicited promotional or referral text linked to Cash App.
  • The message was received between November 2019 and August 2025.
  • You did not give permission to receive that text.

How much will each person receive?

The estimated payment per claimant may be up to $147. However, the exact amount will depend on the number of valid claims submitted. If more people file, each person’s share will be lower. If fewer file, the individual amount will be higher.

How to file a claim

To complete your claim, you will need to provide:

  • Your phone number that received the message.
  • Proof of residency in Washington at the time.
  • Confirmation that you didn’t agree to receive promotional texts.

You can submit your claim in either of the following ways:

  • Online via the official settlement website (recommended for faster processing)
  • By mail, using a printed claim form

When filing, you can select your preferred payment method, which may include:

  • Venmo
  • PayPal
  • Mailed cheque

When will payments be sent?

Even after claims close in October, payments will not be sent immediately. The court must first hold a final approval hearing on December 2. If the settlement is approved, payments will begin after processing is completed.

If you believe you qualify, it is advisable to submit your claim as soon as possible. Waiting until the last moment may increase the risk of missing the deadline or facing technical issues.
