Pixel Arcadia Announces Retro-Gaming Showcase for August 2026

The new 90-minute digital event will spotlight classic gaming, retro-inspired releases and independent developers, with support from GOG.com, Clear River Games and other industry partners.

London, UK — 28 July 2026 — Pixel Arcadia, a new digital showcase focused on retro and retro-inspired video games, will make its debut on 24 August 2026 with a 90-minute broadcast dedicated to gaming heritage, new releases and independent creators.

Created by Pixel Helix, the event is designed to give retro gaming a dedicated platform rather than treating it as a secondary part of broader industry showcases.

The inaugural broadcast will feature games scheduled for release in 2026 and beyond, alongside projects inspired by classic genres, aesthetics and design traditions.

GOG.com and Clear River Games Join as Sponsors

Pixel Arcadia has announced GOG.com and Clear River Games as segment sponsors for the first showcase.

GOG.com is known for its DRM-free digital distribution model and its work around game preservation, including initiatives aimed at keeping older PC titles compatible with modern hardware and operating systems.

Clear River Games focuses on physical releases, retro revivals and modern titles inspired by classic gaming traditions.

The event will also receive support from feature sponsors including Retro Gamer, Beyond the Pixels and OldSchoolGamer.com.

Together, the partnerships underline Pixel Arcadia’s focus on both preserving gaming history and supporting new creators working within the retro space.

A Dedicated Stage for Retro Gaming

Retro gaming has become an increasingly important part of the wider games industry.

Classic franchises continue to return through remasters and re-releases, while independent studios increasingly build new games around pixel art, arcade mechanics, 8-bit and 16-bit visual styles and other design ideas associated with earlier generations of gaming.

Pixel Arcadia is positioning itself as a showcase specifically for this community.

Rather than separating old and new, the event aims to bring together preservation, nostalgia and modern game development within the same programme.

Al Hibberd, CEO of Pixel Helix, said the response from sponsors showed that the industry is ready for an event that gives retro gaming greater visibility and provides developers with a dedicated platform.

90 Minutes of Retro Releases and Reveals

Submissions for the debut Pixel Arcadia showcase closed at the end of June.

Organisers say viewers can expect a 90-minute programme featuring a range of retro titles and new releases planned for 2026 and beyond.

Further information on participating studios and exclusive reveals is expected ahead of the event.

The showcase will broadcast on 24 August 2026 at 20:00 CEST, 19:00 BST, 14:00 EST and 11:00 PST.

Fans will be able to follow Pixel Arcadia through its social channels, including YouTube, X and Facebook, for further announcements.

Why Retro Gaming Still Matters

Retro gaming is no longer defined only by nostalgia.

It has become part of a broader movement around digital preservation, independent development and access to gaming history.

As older hardware becomes harder to maintain and software compatibility changes, preservation initiatives are becoming increasingly important for keeping influential games playable.

At the same time, a new generation of developers is borrowing ideas from older games while adapting them for modern audiences.

Pixel Arcadia enters that space with a simple proposition: classic gaming culture deserves its own stage.

For a gaming industry increasingly shaped by large-scale productions and live-service models, the event also offers room for smaller studios, specialist publishers and communities built around the history and creative DNA of video games.
