History

In April 2019, Sanjay Mehta, a seasoned entrepreneur and angel investor with over 100 investments in his portfolio, had the vision to create India's first institutional angel fund. He wanted to provide seed and pre-seed funding to technology startups and help them grow and succeed. With this goal in mind, he founded 100X.VC.

The firm's name was inspired by the idea of investing in 100 startups over the next two years. Mehta believed that this ambitious target was achievable and would help to support India's early-stage startup ecosystem.

By July 2019, 100X.VC had announced its first batch of investments. The firm invested in 11 startups from a range of sectors, including fintech, ed-tech, health tech, and enterprise software. Each startup was invested in through an iSAFE note, a convertible security that provides flexibility for both startups and investors.

Over the next two years, 100X.VC continued to invest in early-stage startups, expanding its portfolio to over 100 companies. The firm's investments were focused on startups in sectors such as e-commerce, logistics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

In 2020, 100X.VC organized India's first-ever virtual demo day for startups. The event brought together over 700 investors, mentors, and industry experts to hear pitches from 50 startups in the firm's portfolio. The event was a huge success and helped to showcase the potential of India's early-stage startup ecosystem.

Looking ahead, 100X.VC aims to continue investing in early-stage startups and helping them to grow and succeed. The firm is also planning to launch a seed fund and a venture debt fund in the near future, which will provide additional support and funding options for its portfolio companies. 100X.VC's history is a testament to the firm's commitment to supporting India's early-stage startup ecosystem and its goal of becoming the country's leading institutional angel fund.
