The company's commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability has earned it a reputation as a trusted partner for businesses and governments seeking to thrive in an ever-changing world.

History

Accenture's roots trace back to the early 1950s when it was the business and technology consulting division of accounting firm Arthur Andersen. Its first project was a feasibility study for General Electric to install a computer at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky. This led to GE's installation of a UNIVAC I computer and printer, which is believed to be the first commercial use of a computer in the U.S. Joseph Glickauf, an early pioneer of computer consulting, was instrumental in the success of the project and held a position as head of Arthur Andersen's administrative services division.

As technology continued to evolve, Accenture continued to expand its IT consulting services. During the 1970s, the company worked with clients to implement mainframe computer systems and other early technologies. The company also began to offer IT consulting services in Europe, Asia, and Australia, which marked its global expansion.

In the 1980s, Accenture's IT consulting services became more focused on helping clients implement large-scale systems such as ERP systems and CRM systems. The company also helped clients integrate these systems with their existing technology infrastructure and process.

Accenture continued to grow and evolve in the 21st century, expanding its capabilities and services to better serve its clients. In 2009, the company changed its place of incorporation from Bermuda to Ireland and became Accenture plc. In the following years, Accenture acquired several companies, including i4C Analytics, a software platform provider based in Italy that specialized in helping clients solve complex business problems through easy-to-use analytics applications.

In recent years, Accenture has continued to expand and acquire new capabilities. In 2017, the company announced a partnership with Apple to create iOS business software. In 2020, Accenture acquired Revolutionary Security, Callisto Integration, and Byte Prophecy, which added cybersecurity, consulting, and data analytics capabilities to its portfolio.

In September 2020, the company committed $3 billion and created a division called Accenture Cloud First to help its clients accelerate their cloud migration and digital transformation efforts. It also established a hub in Adelaide, South Australia, to support its clients in the Asia Pacific region.

In 2022, Accenture continued its acquisition spree by acquiring sustainability consultancy Akzente, operational and digital engineering technology capabilities from Transcom ITS and Allgemeines Rechenzentrum GmbH, technology consultancy and managed services provider Advocate Networks, cloud consulting company Solvera Solutions, and cloud data firm Tenbu. In November 2022, it was announced that Accenture had acquired the Tokyo-headquartered data science company, Albert Inc.

Today, Accenture is a leading global professional services company that provides consulting, technology, and outsourcing services to clients across various industries. With a strong focus on innovation and technology, the company continues to help its clients navigate the ever-changing business landscape and stay ahead of the curve.
