Alice Pelton's professional journey has been varied, to say the least. After completing her studies in Anthropology at LSE, she ventured into the world of e-commerce, launching a brand that sold dog food. However, her interests soon shifted, and she found herself drawn to the field of marketing.
She began her career at News UK, where she spent seven years honing her skills as a marketer. During this time, she discovered that she was particularly passionate about working with developers and tech teams. It was during a sabbatical in 2017 that she came up with the idea for The Lowdown, a review platform for contraception.
Alice's personal experiences with contraception had been frustrating, to say the least. She found that there was a lack of comprehensive information available online, and it was difficult to find honest reviews from other women. With The Lowdown, she sought to create a platform that would provide women with a trusted source of information and reviews, empowering them to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.
Using her experience as a digital product manager for some of the UK's biggest news brands, Alice bootstrapped and built the site as a side hustle, launching it in 2019. The Lowdown was an instant success, and Alice quickly realized that she needed to devote herself full-time to the business. She quit her job at News UK in 2019 and spent time traveling before returning home to focus on the business.
Since then, The Lowdown has gone from strength to strength. The company recently closed an investment round, allowing Alice to hire a team and launch a consultation and prescription service. The Lowdown is now the UK's leading contraception and sexual and reproductive health platform, used by thousands of women every day.
For Alice, building The Lowdown has been a dream come true. She is passionate about helping women with their contraception and providing them with the information they need to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. Looking to the future, Alice and her team are currently hard at work rebuilding The Lowdown's website, with plans to launch it in September. With Alice at the helm, The Lowdown is set to continue its mission of empowering women all over the world to take control of their health.
