History

Ambac Assurance Corporation (AAC) was founded in 1971 as a joint venture between the Municipal Bond Insurance Association (now Assured Guaranty) and Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA). AAC was originally formed to provide financial guarantees in the municipal bond insurance field, with an emphasis on the financing of municipal infrastructure projects.
