Anthony Di Iorio

Anthony Di Iorio is a Canadian entrepreneur, co-founder of Ethereum, and an early investor in Bitcoin.

In late 2013 Anthony funded & co-founded Ethereum, the decentralized smart contract platform. Currently, he is the founder and CEO of Decentral Inc., a Toronto-based innovation hub & software development company focused on decentralized technologies. Decentral is the maker of Jaxx Liberty, A digital asset platforms that has empowered millions of people with the tools they need to control their digital lives.

Anthony has advised a number of companies, and as the inaugural Chief Digital Officer for the TMX Group, the parent company of The Toronto Stock Exchange, he explored ways to make exchanges operate faster and cheaper through blockchain technology.

Anthony has shared his visionary insight with hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Since 2012, he has given numerous lectures, speeches, keynote addresses and interviews, and even hosted over 100 technology events. He was a lecturer at the University of Nicosia’s Master’s program in Digital Currencies and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law teaching “Cryptocurrencies, Crypto Ventures and the Future of the Exchange.”

In 2018, Anthony was the winner of the EY Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year Award, as the winner of the FinTech Leader of the Year Award, and made Toronto Life’s list of the 50 Most Influential people in 2018. 

Anthony Di Iorio began his journey in the technology sector as the Marketing Manager at DCL International Inc., a global leader in emission control technologies. During his time there, he contributed to the research, design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation of advanced emission control products.

In 1999, Di Iorio joined Sunview Patio Doors Ltd as a Manager, where he oversaw state-of-the-art vinyl and metal manufacturing processes, focusing on energy-efficient and high-quality products. He later transitioned to the role of Project Supervisor at Groundheat, where he promoted geothermal energy in Canada and managed projects related to geothermal loop installations.

In 2005, Di Iorio ventured into property management, establishing Di Iorio Property Management. As the owner and landlord of multiple residential units, he gained valuable experience in the real estate industry. He also founded CityDrill Geothermal Drilling in 2007, specializing in drilling for geothermal energy systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.

Di Iorio's interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology emerged in 2013 when he founded Kryptokit, a company that provided easy-to-use Bitcoin wallets, secure messaging platforms, and Bitcoin-related services. Around the same time, he became a Founding Member and Executive Director of the Bitcoin Alliance of Canada, a prominent organization dedicated to raising awareness of Bitcoin and promoting its adoption in Canada.

In 2014, Di Iorio established Decentral, a Toronto-based company focused on software development and blockchain technologies. Decentral created Toronto's first two-way Bitcoin ATM and became a hub for blockchain, fintech, and cryptocurrency enthusiasts, hosting numerous events and meetups. He also co-founded Ethereum, an open-source platform aiming to decentralize the web and enable the development of decentralized applications.

Di Iorio's passion for educating others about blockchain and cryptocurrencies led him to become an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, teaching the course "Cryptocurrencies, Crypto Ventures, and the Future of the Exchange." He also served as a Lecturer at the University of Nicosia, where he discussed disruptive innovation, blockchain technology, and their implications.

Throughout his career, Di Iorio has been actively involved in the cryptocurrency and blockchain community. He has advised and collaborated with organizations such as MaRS Discovery District's Fintech Cluster, the University of Nicosia, and the Toronto Stock Exchange.
