History

AOKI Holdings was founded in 1977 by Takeshi Aoki. The company initially operated small retail stores in Tokyo, but quickly expanded its operations across Japan. In the late 90s, AOKI Holdings opened its first megastore in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, with over 23,000 square meters of retail space. The company has since opened over 70 additional stores throughout the country, becoming one of the largest retailers in Japan.
