The company was formerly known as BNC Financial Group, Inc. and changed its name to Bankwell Financial Group, Inc. in September 2013. Bankwell Financial Group, Inc. was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in New Canaan, Connecticut.

History

Established in 2006, Bankwell is a Connecticut chartered commercial bank which opened its first branch in Wilton on a foundation of delivering to customers the products, services and sophistication they desire, along with the local and personal touch they expect. Bankwell's holding company, Bankwell Financial Group, Inc., held its initial public offering in June, 2016, trading on the NASDAQ Global Market exchange.
