History

Big 5 Sporting Goods was founded in 1955 by Robert Miller, who wanted to provide sports equipment and apparel to the general public. At the time of its founding, the company had just two stores that were located in Burbank, California and El Segundo, California. In the late 1960s, the company expanded to new locations in California and other western states.
