The company invests in and manages mortgage-backed securities issued by the Government National Mortgage Association, commonly known as Ginnie Mae, Federal National Mortgage Association, commonly known as Fannie Mae, and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, commonly known as Freddie Mac.
History

Capstead Mortgage Corporation was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Capstead is one of the oldest REITs in the mortgage REIT sector and has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1989. The company originally specialized in residential mortgage-backed securities, as it still does today.
