The company's principal products include liquefied petroleum gas, motor spirit, superior kerosene oil, aviation turbine fuel, high speed diesel, naphtha, bitumen, hexane, mineral turpentine oil, lube base stock, petrochemical feedstocks, paraffin wax, and petcoke. It also provides furnace oil, sulphur, light diesel oil, extracts, and paving bitumen; and propylene, poly butyne feed-stock, methyl ethyl ketone feed, and linear alkyl benzene feedstock. The company was formerly known as Madras Refineries Limited and changed its name to Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited in June 2000. The company was incorporated in 1965 and is based in Chennai, India. Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited is a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
History

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited was originally founded in 1965 as Madras Refineries Limited (MRL) and was a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation until 1987, when both companies were converted into separate public sector units. The holding company of the group, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), holds a majority stake in the company. In 1995, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) was formed by merging three Madras Refineries Limited (MRL) and two Indian Oil Corporation facilities located in various cities in Tamil Nadu.
