Equity Commonwealth (NYSE: EQC) is a Chicago based, internally managed and self-advised real estate investment trust (REIT) with commercial office properties in the United States. EQC's same property portfolio is comprised of 4 properties and 1.5 million square feet.
History

Equity Commonwealth was established in 1991. The company is one of the original REITs, having been formed out of the merger of two real estate partnerships. It is managed by Sam Zell, Chairman and CEO of Equity Group Investments, a private-equity investment firm. Equity Commonwealth has a long history of investment and development in the office space sector.
