Summary
History
Comvita New Zealand Limited was founded in 1974 by Claude Stratford and his son, Neil. The company was originally called Comvita, which means “living honey” in Latin. It began as a small business that sold pure, natural honey from hives located in the Bay of Plenty and in Northland, New Zealand. Comvita expanded its operations in the 1980s and 1990s, eventually becoming the largest manufacturer and distributor of pure, natural honey in New Zealand. The company introduced a range of health-related products, including propolis, manuka honey, olive leaf extract, and other health and wellness products. In 2004, Comvita listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and is now a publicly traded company. In 2013, the company acquired British health-supplement company Essential Living Foods.
