Deutsche Post AG has a long history, having been founded in 1490 and headquartered in Bonn, Germany. With its comprehensive range of mail and logistics services, the company is committed to providing customers with high-quality products, services, and solutions that meet their needs in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.

History

The early history of Deutsche Post dates to the mid-1600s when the Thurn und Taxis family established its postal service in the German states. Over the centuries, the service underwent various reorganizations and expansions. In 1871, the German Empire was founded, and in 1875 the imperial post office was placed under the direction of the Reichspostministerium.

In the late 1880s and early 1890s, postal reforms were implemented, culminating in the introduction of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). These reforms included the creation of the Imperial Post Office and the Reichspost, which was responsible for the delivery of mail and telegrams across Germany. In 1913, Deutsche Reichspost became the official postal service of the newly unified Germany. The service was responsible for all mail, telegraph, and telephone communication within Germany, as well as providing international postal service.

During World War I and World War II, all mail services in Germany were managed by the Reichspost. After World War II, many postal services in Germany were nationalized, forming various regional postal authorities, such as the Bundespost. In 1989, these regional authorities merged to form Deutsche Post AG, which was privatized in 1995 and became a public limited company in 2000.

In the early 2000s, Deutsche Post expanded its operations to include logistics services, and it acquired several companies in the logistics sector, including DHL International in 2002. The company began to focus on expanding its global presence, and today it provides mail and logistics services across 220 countries and territories. It is the world's largest postal and logistics services provider in terms of revenue, operating as both a private and as a public entity. It is actively involved in the digitalization of postal delivery, parcel delivery and logistics services.
