The organization was started by a group of volunteers who wanted to make an impact in the aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Since then, Emergency Assistance Japan has expanded to serve over 70 countries, providing support for disaster recovery, disaster risk reduction, and emergency response.
