It also provides wireless access point products; ExtremeSwitching portfolio that includes access edge products that offer physical presentations along with options to deliver Ethernet or convergence-friendly Power-over-Ethernet (POE), including high-power universal POE; ExtremeCloud SD-WAN, a software-defined wide area networks solution offers an all-inclusive subscription, which includes hardware, the cloud-based SD-WAN service, support and maintenance, and customer success support; aggregation/core switches designed to address aggregation, top-of-rack, and campus core environments; and data center switches and routers. In addition, the company offers cloud native platforms and applications for service providers; and customer support and services. It markets and sells its products through distributors, resellers, and field sales organizations to healthcare, education, government, manufacturing, retail, and hospitality markets. Extreme Networks, Inc. was incorporated in 1996 and is headquartered in Morrisville, North Carolina.

History

Extreme Networks was established by co-founders Gordon Stitt, Herb Schneider, and Stephen Haddock in 1996 in California, USA, with its first offices located in Cupertino, which later moved to Santa Clara, and later to San Jose. Early investors included Norwest Venture Partners, AVI Capital Management, Trinity Ventures, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Gordon Stitt was a co-founder and served as chief executive officer until August 2006, when he retired and became chairman of the board of directors.

The initial public offering in April 1999 was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange as ticker "EXTR."In April 2013, Charles W. Berger replaced Oscar Rodriguez as CEO.In November 2014, Extreme Networks was named the first Official Wi-Fi solutions provider of the NFL.

On April 19, 2015, Charles W. Berger resigned as CEO, and was replaced by Board Chairman Ed Meyercord.In September 2020, analyst firm Omdia named Extreme Networks the fast-growing vendor in cloud-managed networking.In November 2021, Extreme Networks was named a Leader in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure for the fourth consecutive year by Gartner analysts.
