Gaurav Misra

Gaurav Misra is the Co-Founder and CEO of Mirage, a company he founded in February 2021. Before launching Mirage, he co-founded and led Captions, a company focused on creating innovative video editing and content creation tools.  

Gaurav was also the Head of Design Engineering at Snap Inc. from 2016 to 2021, where he contributed to product development and design. Prior to Snap, Gaurav worked at Localytics as a Software Engineer and at Microsoft as a Software Development Engineer II. He also held a role at Lattice Engines as a Software Engineer from 2013 to 2014.

He has a strong background in software engineering and product design. His technical expertise is in machine learning, product design, and software engineering. He started his career with Lattice Engines, gaining experience in the early stages of his professional journey. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Boston University. Over the years, he has gained significant experience in building and scaling successful products, focusing on leveraging technology to help creators, particularly in the video creation space.

Gaurav Misra was born in India and later moved to the United States, where he pursued his education. He attended Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science in 2012. From the outset of his career, Gaurav developed a strong foundation in software engineering, which laid the groundwork for his future entrepreneurial journey.
 

In 2013, Gaurav began his professional career as a Software Engineer at Lattice Engines, where he worked until April 2014. During his time there, he contributed to the development of data-driven marketing tools. Following this, he joined Microsoft in 2014 as a Software Development Engineer II, working on projects like Azure Machine Learning and Azure Blobs cross-region replication. His work at Microsoft allowed him to gain extensive experience in cloud computing and machine learning, helping to shape his approach to product design and development.
 

After his tenure at Microsoft, Gaurav moved to Localytics in 2015, where he worked as a Software Engineer. Localytics is a mobile app analytics and marketing platform, and during his time there, Gaurav further refined his skills in product design and engineering, focusing on building tools to improve mobile user engagement. He worked at Localytics until the end of 2016.
 

In 2016, Gaurav joined Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, where he worked as a Software Engineer and Product Designer. At Snap, he was involved in various aspects of product development, contributing to the design and engineering of features that are integral to the platform’s success. His role at Snap lasted until 2021, and it was during this period that he honed his skills in leading teams and managing the design of complex products for a large, global user base.
 

In 2021, Gaurav co-founded Captions, a company focused on simplifying video editing and content creation through AI-driven solutions. He served as the CEO of the company, overseeing the development of innovative tools aimed at empowering creators to produce high-quality content more efficiently. His leadership in Captions helped establish the company as a key player in the video creation space.

Later in 2021, Gaurav transitioned to become the Co-Founder and CEO of Mirage, a company he founded with the aim of further innovating in the field of content creation and video editing. Mirage focuses on creating products that streamline the video production process for content creators, offering AI-powered tools that simplify editing and enhance user experience.
 

Throughout his career, Gaurav has shown a commitment to leveraging technology to solve complex problems, particularly in the areas of software engineering, machine learning, and product design. His entrepreneurial ventures, particularly in the video editing space, have made significant contributions to simplifying workflows for creators.

As of now, Gaurav continues to lead Mirage, focusing on scaling the company and developing new tools to advance the video content creation industry. He is also actively involved in product innovation, aiming to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in AI and video editing. Gaurav’s work remains central to the development of new technologies that empower creators and streamline their production processes.

Gaurav Misra, CEO of Mirage (formerly Captions), has received notable recognition for his contributions to technology and education. In 2016, he became India's first ISTD-certified life skills educator, acknowledged with international recognition by the United Nations' Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN) for his innovative skill development initiatives. 

He was also awarded the Fulbright Fellowship in 2015 to teach and study at the University of Montana, USA, where he received the 'Distinguished Service and Outreach Award' in 2016 for his outstanding service to the university campus and the Missoula community. Additionally, he has been honoured with the 'Great Achiever Award' in 2017 for his contributions to education and skill development.
