The Licensed Brands segment markets footwear under the Levi's, Dockers, and G.H. Bass brands for men, women, and children, as well as designs and manufactures the STARTER and ETONIC brands footwear. As of January 29, 2022, the company operated approximately 1,425 retail stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland primarily under the Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Schuh, Little Burgundy, and Johnston & Murphy names. Genesco was established in 1924 by R. Sam Gummington, who opened the first store in downtown Nashville. Along with men’s shoes and sporting goods, President Gummington offered a wide selection of outdoor equipment, such as gun and ammunition, army surplus and camping supplies. In 1942, the company went public, changed its name from R.S. Genesco to Genesco Inc. and began selling shoes for women. Genesco stores were found throughout the South, and in 1964, the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
