History
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, commonly known as GGSIPU, is a public state university located in Dwarka, New Delhi, India. The university was established in 1998 by the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi under the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998, which was later amended in 1999. Initially known as Indraprastha University (IPU), the university was officially renamed in 2001 to honor Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, whose contributions to society and religion are revered. The name also reflects the ancient city of Indraprastha, mentioned in the Indian epic, the Mahabharata, symbolising the institution's historical significance.
The establishment of the university was aimed at providing accessible and high-quality education in the fields of engineering, technology, management, medicine, law, education, and various other disciplines. According to the placement report for 2024 released by the University School of Information, Communication & Technology (USICT) at GGSIPU, the highest and average salary packages offered during the USICT placements were INR 41.2 LPA and INR 7.2 LPA, respectively. A total of 126 offers were made, with 32 companies visiting the campus for these placements.
Furthermore, the NIRF report for 2024 from the University School of Management Studies (USMS) highlights that the median package offered during the MBA placements for 2023 stood at INR 6.18 LPA. Out of 175 students, 160 were successfully placed during the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University MBA placements in 2023.
