
Hapvida was founded in 1982, initially as an insurance company for hospitals. In 2000, the company began to develop an integrated care delivery model in the states of Ceará, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco. In 2004, it expanded its operations to São Paulo and in 2008 to Minas Gerais. In 2009, Hapvida merged with the private hospital network RDH and in 2016, it acquired the SP network of private hospitals, Health Care S.A. By 2017, Hapvida had expanded to thirteen states, with 308 hospitals and numerous health care plans, partnering with more than 13 thousand service providers.
