Summary

Hivemapper is a Silicon Valley-based mapping network that aims to create a decentralized, ever-updating map of the world, with a team consisting of engineers and product designers from Google Earth, Yahoo, Mapbox, Palantir, and more. The platform is backed by top-tier investors such as Spark Capital, Multicoin Capital, Craft Ventures, Shine Capital, Homebrew, Founder Collective, and GV, and has been recognized by Forbes as one of the most promising artificial intelligence companies. The team's passion for using technology to build a smarter map of the world together is evident.

Hivemapper's mapping network is community-owned and built by people using dashcams to mine cryptocurrency, HONEY, which represents a fundamental shift in how maps are built and who owns them. The mapping network offers cryptocurrency and drone mapping for various sectors, including insurance, real estate, logistics, and government. Hivemapper's goal is to create unprecedented coverage, freshness, and quality by mapping ten million unique road kilometers by 2024.

The platform rewards users with Solana-based crypto tokens for capturing dashcam data, which creates a new way to map and mine crypto. The startup currently has more than 11,000 contributors and 418 regions mapped to some degree, with around 30% of Los Angeles's roads already tackled. The company's investors include some of the most prominent Venture Capital (VC) firms in the world, and it recently raised an $18M Series A.

History

Ariel Seidman co-founded Hidemapper, a decentralised platform to build a smarter map of the world in 2015 with team of engineers and product designers from Google Earth, Yahoo, Mapbox, Palantir, and more. The team has built and scaled global maps and geospatial products at Yahoo Maps, Scale AI, and Mapbox.

Over the years, the project was backed by top-tier investors, including Spark Capital, Multicoin Capital, Craft Ventures, Shine Capital, Homebrew, Founder Collective, and GV. Forbes has recognized Hivemapper as one of the most promising artificial intelligence companies.

In March 2023, Hivemapper announced that it had collected more than 1 million kilometers (about 620,000 miles) of unique street-level imagery. The startup aims to map 10 million unique road kilometers by early next year. Hivemapper rewards users with Solana-based crypto tokens for capturing dashcam data. The startup currently has more than 11,000 contributors and 418 regions mapped to some degree. Hivemapper has tackled around 30% of Los Angeles’s roads, but only 1.4% of Genoa, Italy’s.

Recently, Hivemapper raised an $18M Series A funding round to continue its mission of building a smarter map of the world. With its decentralized mapping network and cryptocurrency-based incentive system, Hivemapper aims to disrupt the B2B mapping empire built by Google.

Mission

The mission of Hivemapper is to build a smarter map of the world, together. The company aims to achieve this by creating a decentralized, ever-updating map that is built by people using dashcams to mine cryptocurrency, HONEY. The goal is to provide unprecedented coverage, freshness, and quality in mapping various sectors such as insurance, real estate, logistics, and government.

Hivemapper believes that the current approach to mapping, which is primarily dominated by a few big players, has limitations in terms of coverage, accuracy, and real-time updates. The company aims to disrupt this by creating a community-owned mapping network that allows people to share in the economic benefits of building a global map. In doing so, Hivemapper hopes to provide a more accurate and up-to-date map that can be used by a wide range of industries.

Vision

The vision of Hivemapper is to create a new way of mapping the world that is decentralized, democratized, and community-owned. The company believes that the current mapping industry is dominated by a few big players, and the maps they produce are often inaccurate, outdated, and limited in scope. Hivemapper's vision is to disrupt this model by creating a platform that leverages the power of community-driven mapping.

The company's vision is to empower people around the world to contribute to the creation of a global map that is more accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to everyone. By harnessing the power of technologies such as dashcams, drones, and blockchain, Hivemapper aims to create a map that is continuously updated in real-time and provides unprecedented coverage, freshness, and quality.

Hivemapper's vision is to create a new economy of mapping that allows people to participate and share in the economic benefits of building a global map. The company aims to create a platform that is open, transparent, and accessible to all, regardless of their location, language, or background.

Products and Services

Hivemapper offers a range of products and services centered around its decentralized mapping network. These include cryptocurrency mining, drone mapping, and data analysis for a variety of industries such as insurance, real estate, logistics, and government.

One of Hivemapper's flagship products is its crypto-mining dashcam, which enables users to earn cryptocurrency called HONEY by contributing street-level imagery to the mapping network. The company believes that this creates a new way to mine crypto, where users can earn tokens by driving their cars and contributing to the creation of a more accurate and up-to-date map of the world.

Hivemapper also offers drone mapping services, which use advanced technology to capture high-resolution imagery from the sky. These services are particularly useful for industries such as real estate and construction, where accurate and detailed maps are crucial for planning and decision-making.

In addition to its mapping products, Hivemapper also offers data analysis services for a variety of industries. The company uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to analyze data and provide insights and predictions that can help companies make better decisions and improve their operations.
