History

Co-founded by Pranav Misra and Shyma Shetty in 2012, Huemn's DNA is young and dynamic, focusing equally on relevance and responsibility. With an ethos enriched with multiple design aesthetics and schools of thought, voices in our communities, cross- currents in culture and a constantly evolving narrative, the fashion label creates products and imagery that aim to inspire thought and conversation. What's more the fashion label’s collaborations with creative powerhouses and industry giants are known to start wider dialogues about individuality, sustainability, inclusivity and mindful buying.

“Here's our name: Huemn which is a wordplay on human. Hue in Huemn stands for colour so it's literally about how different we are from each other which was the foundation of the brand. From day one I have believed in the concept of personalities rather than models. More than models I prefer the concept of role models" Pranav tells Elle. "People who inspire you, their gender, caste, religion or landscape doesn't even matter. It could be their style, the way they talk or just the intellect that they have; it could be anything... Somehow it just falls into place and the casting becomes very diverse in its approach."

Huemn’s multiple verticals include Huemn projects: a collective of capsule collections of artistic collaborations and Huemn Stories: an anthology of stories and portraits shot all over the world with American photographer Mark Hanauer. “Pepsi is a brand that has always resonated with the voice of today's generation. This new generation is armed with swag and an inherent confidence in their own abilities" Saumya Rathor, Category Lead, Pepsi Cola, PepsiCo India tells Elle. "They are not afraid to express themselves and Fashion has always been an important tool through which they can express their identities. Our collaboration with Huemn is our commitment to celebrating this very philosophy."

The fashion brand is continually reinventing itself to remain relevant including e-commerce and frequent design drops. Per Voice of Fashion: '“Everyone is reinventing their business models—we too have had a shift in our approach and it has paid off well. It's the first time we are doing e-commerce and there's a lot of attention being paid to each and every product" Pranav Mishra explains, adding that while creating a collection may seem daunting, conceptualising individual pieces can pose a bigger challenge—one that has worked for the label business wise.'

Huemn is recognised for its unusual streetwear- inspired design aesthetic and dramatic pret silhouettes. their collections are influenced by the socio-economic political ambience and the showings send out a strong message with the power to affect real change. For SS18, the serious theme of sensitising the desensitised was threaded with youthful optimism and a stylish vibe. And in addition to the ready-to-wear line, the duo presented up-cycled denim.

The duo's showing in Autumn Winter 2017 made a bold statement. Per Explosive Fashion: "Reacting to news about burqa bans, Huemn by Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty expressed dissent in gestures that, while small and symbolic, added gravitas to the showcase. The duo made a statement with their “burqa dress”… and although the bodysuits with hijabs made a thematic impact, customers who prefer not to wear politics on their sleeve had luxury athleisure options and a stunning denim Nehru jacket worn with ripped jeans!”
