History

Hufvudstaden was founded in 1917 by several former university mates of Per Hufvud, from whom it takes its name. During the 1920s and 1930s, it became one of the largest listed real-estate companies in Sweden. After World War 2, the focus shifted to office properties, and in the 1970s the company expanded its property portfolio to include retail properties. In 2007, Hufvudstaden acquired JB Matsson, one of the largest residential property companies in Stockholm.
