History
Imperial Mining Group was founded in 1887 by John Mackenzie. At the time, it was the only mining company in Ontario. The company began with a small copper smelter in Peterborough and quickly expanded, buying several mines in the area. In 1901, Imperial Mining Group acquired an even larger copper mine in northern Quebec, which they operated until 1965. The company has since diversified its operations, and now mines both copper and silver. Imperial Mining Group also operates a laboratory in Timmins, Ontario.
