History
JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) traces its origin to Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC), which was established in 1990 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Chenraj Roychand. The college was initiated under the aegis of the JAIN Group with a focus on higher education in commerce, science, and management studies. Over the years, SBMJC expanded its academic offerings and institutional presence across Bengaluru.
In 2009, the institution was granted the status of a deemed-to-be university by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and was subsequently renamed JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). This development marked a key milestone in the institution’s academic journey, enabling it to offer a wider array of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across multiple disciplines.
In its early years as a university, JAIN expanded its academic structure to include faculties in engineering, management, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The university also introduced industry-relevant programmes and professional courses to meet the evolving demands of the job market. In line with its vision for inclusive and regional growth, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) established an off-campus centre in Kochi, Kerala, in August 2019.
