Biography

Jas Mann, born on April 24, 1971, in Dudley, West Midlands, England, is a British artist, musician, singer, record producer, and film producer. He comes from a mixed heritage, with a Punjabi Indian father and a mother of Sioux descent.

Mann's musical journey began at a young age when he formed his first band, The Glove Puppets, at the age of 15, along with his friend Adam Toussaint. In 1987, he personally funded the release of a 7" vinyl single, which was sold in local record shops.

In 1988, Mann joined the Wolverhampton-based band The Sandkings as their vocalist. Named after a collection of sci-fi short stories by George R.R. Martin, The Sandkings released several singles, an EP, and an album between 1988 and 1992. The band achieved three Top 10 hits on the UK indie singles chart during Mann's tenure. They also had the opportunity to open for renowned acts such as Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses. However, creative differences led Mann to depart from the band.

Mann's breakthrough came with the formation of Babylon Zoo. Their single "Spaceman" reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in January 1996 after it was featured in Levi's commercial. It became the fastest-selling single in the UK in over three decades, selling 420,000 copies in its first week. The song also topped the charts in 23 countries worldwide. The album "The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes," produced at Mann's New Atlantis Productions, was released later in 1996 and reached number six on the UK Albums Chart. Two more singles from the album, "Animal Army" and "The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes," entered the UK top 40.

Following the success of "Spaceman," Mann continued to work on music and announced plans for a new Babylon Zoo album called "Cold Clockwork Doll" in 2005. However, the album has yet to be released.

In addition to his music career, Mann has made significant contributions to the film industry. In 2008, he co-founded the Indomina Group, an independent studio with operations in Los Angeles and the Dominican Republic. He also played a key role in establishing Pinewood Indomina Studios, a state-of-the-art film and television facility in the Dominican Republic. Indomina Group distributed films such as "The Imposter" and "A Fantastic Fear of Everything." Mann later sold his ownership in Indomina to the Vicini Group.

Mann's entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Virgin Produced India in 2013, a film production company in partnership with the Virgin Group. The company focuses on developing, producing, and distributing Bollywood films while also remaking Hollywood content for Indian audiences.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Mann is involved in philanthropic efforts and serves as a board member of the International Child Art Foundation, a charity that provides arts programming in schools.
