Professor Jean-Noël Ezingeard is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Roehampton, London. In this role, he serves as the academic leader and Chief Executive of the institution, overseeing the implementation of the University's Strategic Plan and reporting directly to the University’s Council. Prior to joining Roehampton, Professor Ezingeard held senior academic and leadership positions at several UK universities, including Manchester Metropolitan University, Kingston University, Henley Business School, and Brunel University London. At Kingston University, he served as Dean of Business and Law and was also responsible for quality assurance and strategic partnerships in South West London.
His academic background began in Engineering Systems at École Centrale de Lille in France. He later moved to the UK, where he completed an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems and a PhD in Information Systems at Brunel University London. His research interests focus on systems and process management, with particular attention to the social aspects of information systems.
Professor Ezingeard is a supporter of widening participation in higher education, drawing on his own experience as the first in his family to attend university. Beyond his duties at Roehampton, he is active in several national and regional bodies. He serves as a board member for the National Centre for Universities and Business, the Universities Vocational Awards Council, London Higher, and the Church of England’s Education Office.
Additionally, he chairs the Education and Early Years panel for the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. His professional background also includes non-executive roles at organisations such as the Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust and the Froebel Trust.
Biography
Professor Jean-Noël Ezingeard is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Roehampton, London. In this role, he serves as both the academic leader and Chief Executive of the university. He is responsible for delivering the University’s Strategic Plan and reports directly to the University Council. He assumed office on 1 May 2019.
Professor Jean began his academic career in France, completing his initial studies in Engineering Systems at École Centrale de Lille, where he obtained the Diplôme d'Ingénieur Grande École. He later moved to the United Kingdom to pursue postgraduate education at Brunel University London, where he earned an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems followed by a PhD in Information Systems. His academic research has focused on systems and process management, with particular attention to the social dimensions of information systems management.
Over the course of his career, Professor Jean has held several senior academic and administrative roles. He started as a Lecturer at Brunel University (1991–1998), where he also served as Course Director for the Special Engineering Programme. He then joined Henley Business School, serving as an Academic Fellow and later as Academic Dean (1998–2007), with responsibility for faculty management, teaching quality, recruitment, and strategic planning. From 2007 to 2013, he was Dean of Business and Law at Kingston University, where he also managed quality assurance processes and led collaborative initiatives such as the South West London Academic Network.
In 2013, he joined Manchester Metropolitan University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Strategic Planning), later becoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Strategic Planning). During his time there, he was involved in university-wide planning and policy development until his appointment to Roehampton in 2019.
Since becoming Vice-Chancellor at the University of Roehampton, Professor Jean has focused on enhancing the university’s academic standing, graduate employability, and external partnerships. He is a strong advocate of widening participation in higher education, influenced by his own experience as the first in his family to attend university.
Professor Ezingeard currently serves on several national boards and advisory groups. He is a board member of the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB), the Universities Vocational Awards Council (UVAC), London Higher, and the Church of England Education Office (National Society).
He is also Chair of the Education and Early Years Route Panel for the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) and a Data Collection and Statistics Oversight Board member at Jisc. Additionally, he is a Council Member of the Froebel Trust. Previously, he served as a Non-Executive Director at the Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust and contributed to several advisory roles across the education and health sectors.
Professor Jean has also contributed internationally through his work as a Visiting Professor at SKEMA Business School in France (2000–2013). His academic and leadership interests span a wide range of areas, including strategic planning, policy analysis, stakeholder management, systems thinking, and international collaboration.

Professor Jean-Noël Ezingeard has been recognised for his leadership and contributions to the University of Roehampton and the broader higher education sector. As Vice-Chancellor, he has played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity within the university community.?
In June 2023, Professor Jean attended the inaugural Professional Services and Colleges Staff Awards at Roehampton, where he presented certificates to outstanding staff members. He also introduced the Vice-Chancellor Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Award, personally selecting a recipient from the nominations to acknowledge exceptional contributions to the university.
Additionally, Professor Jean participated in the Roehampton Futures Award Ceremony in May 2024, celebrating the achievements of students who demonstrated commitment to their studies and future careers. His presence underscored the university's dedication to student success and community engagement.
