JSW Energy was initially established as Jindal Restructuring Private Limited (JRPL) in January 2004 as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for restructuring debt of Jindal Iron and Steel Company Limited (JISCO). However, it was recalled as JSW Energy Limited in November 2005. JSWEL was the first Indian company to enter into a long-term power purchase agreement with the Power Trading Corporation of India in October 2007. Over the years, the company has extended its presence across various segments of the Indian power sector.
