History

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) was established in 1984 by Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities. The founding chairman, "Kalvi Vallal" Thiru T. Kalasalingam, was a renowned freedom fighter and philanthropist dedicated to advancing education and societal development. The institution began as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, reflecting its initial focus on engineering education.

Located in the scenic foothills of the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu, KARE has grown significantly over the decades. In 2006, the college was granted deemed university status by the University Grants Commission (UGC), marking a significant milestone in its history. This transition allowed KARE to expand its academic offerings and enhance its research capabilities, contributing to its reputation as a leading educational institution in India.

In November 2017, the UGC issued a directive for institutions with deemed university status to drop the word "university" from their names. Complying with this directive, the institution was renamed Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education. This change underscored KARE's commitment to research and higher education while maintaining its legacy of excellence.

Throughout its history, KARE has been at the forefront of educational innovation. It was the first institution in India to introduce a special B.Tech program for differently-abled students, specifically those with speech and hearing impairments. This pioneering effort highlights KARE's dedication to inclusive education.

KARE's continuous pursuit of academic and research excellence is evident in its numerous accolades and accreditations. The institution has been re-accredited by NAAC with an 'A++' grade, and several of its undergraduate programs are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-1. Additionally, KARE has secured funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to establish the National Center for Advanced Research in Discrete Mathematics, further solidifying its position as a leader in research and innovation.
