History
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University was established in 1992 as an Industrial Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Founded by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, a visionary and philanthropist, the institute started with humble beginnings and a seed capital of ?5000 (approximately US$66.8). Dr Samanta, driven by a vision to make a difference in society through education, embarked on a journey that would transform the landscape of higher education in India.
Initially established to provide vocational training, KIIT quickly evolved to meet the demands of the education sector. In 1997, it took a significant stride forward by introducing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, management, and computer applications. This marked the beginning of KIIT's transition from an industrial training institute to a comprehensive educational institution.
The year 2007 proved to be a big step in KIIT's history, as it witnessed an expansion of its academic offerings. Several new schools were added to its umbrella, including the School of Law, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Nursing, Mass Communication, Film and Media, Fashion, and KIIT International School. This expansion broadened IT's scope and attracted students from diverse academic backgrounds, establishing it as a multidisciplinary institution of higher learning.

From its modest beginnings in two rented rooms with 12 students and 2 staff, it transformed into a sprawling academic township spread over 36 square kilometres. As per Siksha, In the Kalinga University placements of 2022, a total of 475 undergraduate (UG) and 426 postgraduate (PG) students secured placements. The median package offered to UG students ranged between INR 2.5 LPA and INR 4.2 LPA, while for PG (1-year) and PG (2-year) courses, it stood at INR 2.55 LPA and INR 4.5 LPA, respectively.
