Kura Sushi USA, Inc. operates technology-enabled Japanese restaurants in the United States. The company's restaurants provide Japanese cuisine through an engaging revolving sushi service model, which is known as ?Kura Experience'. As of August 31, 2022, it operated 40 restaurants in twelve states and Washington DC. The company was formerly known as Kula Sushi USA, Inc. and changed its name to Kura Sushi USA, Inc. in October 2017. The company was founded in 2008 and is headquartered in Irvine, California. Kura Sushi USA, Inc. is a subsidiary of Kura Sushi, Inc.
History

Kura Sushi launched its first location in Taiwan in December 2014 near Songjiang Nanjing metro station in Taipei.Kura Sushi has featured decorations and menu items based on characters such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Hello Kitty. By inserting a certain number of plates into a receptacle, customers can trigger custom animations or win prizes during their dining experience.

Kura Sushi USA has repeatedly been sued for discrimination by former female corporate employee and many more lawsuits. The most recent class action that is still going on in California in 2022 was filed by a group of servers for unpaid overtime, regular wage, uniform and business travel expenses and many other unpaid items. Kura Sushi is widely known as “toxic company” and also has many severe scandals that include suicide of a store manager due to chronic and severe power-harassment within the organization and discrimination against female employees. Those scandals and toxic workplace of Kura Japan and USA are repeatedly reported by media and former and current employees.
