History

Lechwerke AG was founded in 1869 as a small electricity and gas provider in Augsburg. It was initially owned by two private individuals, Wilhelm Ritter von Hiller and Wilhelm Lechner. Through continuous expansion, LEW soon became one of the largest energy providers in Bavaria. In 1999, the company was purchased by the E.ON Group, one of the major energy supply companies in Germany.
