History
Liverpool Hope Business School is part of Liverpool Hope University, an institution with origins dating back to 1844. The university was officially established in its current form in 2005, but its foundations were laid by three colleges: Saint Katharine’s College (founded in 1844), Notre Dame College (1856), and Christ’s College (1964).
These colleges were pioneers in teacher education and played a key role in shaping higher education in Liverpool. The university evolved through partnerships between Anglican and Catholic foundations, eventually forming a single ecumenical institution known as Liverpool Hope University College in 1995. It gained full university status in 2005, becoming Liverpool Hope University.
Liverpool Hope Business School was established as a key faculty within the university, aiming to deliver business education that integrates academic knowledge with practical experience. Over the years, the School developed a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business-related subjects such as Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Economics. It focused on preparing students for careers in both the private and public sectors.
The Business School expanded its partnerships with local and national organisations. It worked with Everton Football Club, Santander, and Lloyds Bank to provide students with access to real-world business environments.
It also collaborated with professional bodies, including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), enabling students to gain recognised qualifications alongside their degrees.
The School gained accreditation from AACSB International, a significant milestone placing it among a small group of business schools worldwide recognised for their quality and standards. It became involved with regional development by joining Liverpool City Region’s Business and Enterprise Board and Professional Liverpool, contributing to local economic initiatives.
The School also developed the Insight to Business Awards, which provide students with work placements and networking opportunities. It introduced enterprise-focused initiatives such as Young Enterprise to promote entrepreneurship. Over time, the School expanded its postgraduate portfolio with programmes like the MBA, MSc Digital Marketing, MSc International Business Management, MSc International Project Management, and MSc Business Sustainability.
In 2024, it launched a Postgraduate Certificate in Women in Leadership to support the development of female professionals.
Liverpool Hope Business School built its research around the SEARCH Centre (Social and Economic Action Research Centre at Hope), which hosts research groups focusing on sustainability, marketing, operations, and economic development. Staff from academic and professional backgrounds lead research projects and supervise PhD candidates.
At present, Liverpool Hope Business School remains committed to offering business education that connects academic learning with real-world practice. It continues to grow through new programmes, partnerships, and research activity, while promoting ethical, sustainable, and socially responsible approaches to business.
