In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, the university was ranked 71st among all universities in India. The medical institute ranked 35th, and the pharmacy college ranked 26th nationally. History
The foundation of Maharishi Markandeshwar Education Trust, now known as the M.M. Trust, was laid in 1995 at Ambala, Haryana. It was established with the objective of promoting education in professional fields such as engineering, medical sciences, and management. The first major step in this direction came in 1999 with the establishment of the M.M. Engineering College, which offered Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes.
In the following years, the institution expanded its academic offerings. In 2000, the M.M. Institute of Computer Technology and Business Management was launched to offer programmes in Computer Applications (MCA). In 2001, the M.M. College of Dental Sciences & Research and the M.M. Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation were established, offering courses in dental surgery and physiotherapy respectively.
By 2003, the university further expanded into the hospitality sector by establishing the M.M. Institute of Hotel Management and the M.M. Institute of Computer Technology and Business Management (Hotel Management) to offer diploma and undergraduate programmes in hospitality and culinary arts.
In 2004, the M.M. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research was established to offer MBBS programmes, along with the M.M. Institute of Management which introduced MBA programmes. The same year also saw the introduction of M.Tech programmes.
In 2005, the institution established the M.M. College of Nursing and the M.M. School of General Nursing & Midwifery. The M.M. College of Pharmacy offering B.Pharm and D.Pharm was also set up in 2005. The institution introduced MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) programmes in nine specialties in 2007.
In 2008, the institution was granted the status of a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and became Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana. In the same year, MM International School with CBSE affiliation and postgraduate courses in various disciplines were introduced. The university signed MoUs for academic collaborations with overseas universities and added an MPT programme in physiotherapy.
Between 2009 and 2010, the university added LLB and BALLB law programmes, MD/MS/PG Diploma programmes in medical disciplines, regular M.Phil programmes, and Post Basic Diploma courses in nursing.
The university expanded geographically in 2011 with the establishment of campuses in Solan (Himachal Pradesh), Sadopur (Ambala), and Ramba (Karnal). It received membership of the Association of Commonwealth Universities in the same year.
In subsequent years, the university continued its growth. It was accredited by ASIC, UK as a Premier Institute in 2012 and recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). It was also empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
The M.M. College of Pharmacy added a Pharm.D programme in 2012 and a Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) in 2014. The MM Continental Hotel was opened in 2013, and MM International Schools were established in Sadopur and Karnal between 2014 and 2016. In 2016, the university was accredited as Grade ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
In 2017, MMU established Centres of Excellence in partnership with global technology leaders such as Apple, BOSCH, CISCO, SAP, Google, and Texas Instruments. The same year, it introduced B.Tech (CSE) with specialisation in software development. In 2018, a Super Speciality Hospital was inaugurated and the B.Pharm programme received NBA accreditation.
In 2019, the MM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research received NABH accreditation for all specialty and super-specialty services. The same year, LLM programmes were introduced.
By 2024, the M.M. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research had become one of the top-ranking private medical colleges in India, securing 35th position in NIRF rankings. The university’s pharmacy and dental colleges were also ranked highly. The institution is now accredited with NAAC Grade ‘A++’ and is affiliated with multiple national regulatory councils including MCI, AICTE, PCI, DCI, INC, and BCI.
Courses
Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be University), Mullana, offers a wide range of academic programmes across various disciplines. The Faculty of Engineering provides undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Computer Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. (Hons.) degrees in Food Science & Technology and Nutrition & Dietetics. Diploma programmes are offered with specialisations in Airlines Tourism, Bakery & Confectionary, and Food Production. The M.Sc. in Dietetics & Nutrition is available at the postgraduate level.
In Arts and Humanities, the university offers a B.A. in Performing Arts and an M.A. in English. The Commerce and Management faculty includes B.Com (Hons.), M.Com, BBA (Hons.), BBA in Retail Management, MBA, and a Master of Hospital Administration.

Institute of Medical Sciences and Research secured the 35th rank among all medical colleges in India in 2024. Similarly, the M.M.
