Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), formerly known as Manav Rachna International University, is a Deemed-to-be University located in Faridabad, Haryana, India. Established in 1997 as the Career Institute of Technology and Management (CITM), it was granted Deemed University status in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. The institution was renamed MRIIRS in 2018, and Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC) was later brought under its ambit in 2019.

History

Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), formerly known as Manav Rachna International University (MRIU), is a Deemed-to-be University located in Faridabad, Haryana, India. The institution has evolved from a college affiliated with a state university into a major private higher education institution with national and international recognition.

 

The origins of MRIIRS can be traced back to 1997 with the establishment of the Career Institute of Technology and Management (CITM), which was affiliated with Maharshi Dayanand University, a State University in Haryana. In 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, conferred Deemed University status under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, upon CITM, allowing it to function independently as Manav Rachna International University (MRIU).

 

In 2018, as per MHRD Notification No. F.9-3/2007.U3(A) dated 11 January 2018, the name of Manav Rachna International University was changed to Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS). The status of Deemed-to-be University was extended and regularised through MHRD Notification No. F.9-3/2007/U3(A) Vol.2 dated 8 June 2018, effective from 21 December 2013.

 

Subsequently, Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC) was included under the ambit of MRIIRS through Notification No. F-10/2016-U3 (A) dated 13 May 2019. In June 2020, the University Grants Commission (UGC) granted 12B status to MRIIRS through Letter No. F.No. 22-1/2019(CPP-1/DU).

 

MRIIRS is accredited with an 'A++' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its second cycle as of February 2023. It has also earned recognition from various other bodies, including the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), which has accredited its B.Tech programmes in Computer Science Engineering and Biotechnology, as well as its MBA programme.

 

Over the years, MRIIRS has achieved several national and international rankings and recognitions. It was ranked 92nd in the University category and placed within the 101–150 band in the Overall and Engineering categories in the NIRF 2024 rankings. Manav Rachna Dental College was ranked 38th in the Dental category by NIRF in 2024. Additionally, it has received a 4-star rating overall in the QS Stars system, including 5-star ratings in multiple categories such as Teaching, Employability, and Facilities. The institution was also ranked in the 701–750 band in the QS Asia Rankings 2023 and has continued to appear in global rankings like THE World University Rankings and Impact Rankings.

 

MRIIRS operates from a 60-acre campus in Faridabad and had plans for expansion into Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonipat. The university houses various faculties and departments, including engineering, business, media, dental sciences, physiotherapy, nutrition, social sciences, and computer applications. It has a central library named after Dr O.P. Bhalla, and an indoor sports facility inaugurated by Olympic medallist Abhinav Bindra.

 

The university follows a semester-based academic system and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. Admissions are conducted through various entrance tests, including MRNAT, Uni-GAUGE, SAT, JEE (for B.Tech), GATE (for M.Tech), and MAT (for MBA). It has established a Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and offers flexibility in course selection.

 

MRIIRS is engaged in various community outreach and social responsibility initiatives. These include the "Teacher on Call" programme for government school students, regular health camps, collaboration with NGOs, and the “Ek Mutthi Daan” food donation initiative. It operates a community radio station, Radio Manav Rachna 107.8 FM, since 2009.

 

Sustainability and environmental consciousness are core to MRIIRS’s mission, as demonstrated by plantation drives, water conservation initiatives, and partnerships with local authorities for sanitation and pollution control. The university also encourages research and innovation, having published more than 2,500 papers in indexed journals and supported student innovations such as “CAELI,” which earned international recognition at the Microsoft Imagine Cup.

 

MRIIRS continues to focus on pedagogical development, teacher education, and digital learning. It is a nodal centre for virtual labs and has earned high ratings in NPTEL-SWAYAM certifications.

Courses

Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across various disciplines. 

 

At the undergraduate level, the university offers programmes such as B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Biotechnology, and other engineering disciplines. Students can also pursue BBA, B.Com (Hons), B.A. (Hons) in various streams, B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy), BCA, and BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. The dental programme includes Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), delivered through Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC), a constituent institution of MRIIRS.

 

Postgraduate offerings include M.Tech in specialisations such as Computer Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, and Electronics. The MBA programme is available with various specialisations and has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Other postgraduate programmes include MPT (Master of Physiotherapy), MCA, M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication, M.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, and M.Com. These programmes are designed to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to each field.

 

The university also offers Ph.D. programmes in disciplines such as engineering, computer applications, management, sciences, humanities, and health sciences. The doctoral programmes are structured in accordance with UGC regulations, ensuring rigour and academic integrity.

 

MRIIRS follows the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), allowing students flexibility in course selection and the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary learning. 

 

Admissions to the undergraduate engineering programmes are primarily based on JEE Main scores and MRNAT (Manav Rachna National Aptitude Test). For management courses, scores from national-level tests such as MAT are accepted. 

 

The university also facilitates lateral entry into the second year of B.Tech for diploma holders and offers bridge courses for students requiring additional support.
