Before her appointment as a Commissioner, Gabriel served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2017. She has been elected to the European Parliament three times in total: in 2009, 2014, and 2019. During her time in the European Parliament, Gabriel was a member of several committees, including the Committee on Culture and Education and the Committee on Industry, Research, and Energy.
