The company was founded in 1932 and is based in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
History

Merchant Marine Bank was founded in 1967, by James M. Fox in Chula Vista, California. At the time of its founding, the bank had no more than $500,000 in deposits. In 1975, the bank moved to downtown San Diego and had grown to four branches by 1981. In 1994, the bank established its first standalone trust and investment office. In 2003, the bank went public and has grown to 14 locations throughout San Diego. Merchant Marine Bank continues to be a family-owned and locally-operated business, with four generations of the Fox family actively involved in its management.
