History

Direct -to-consumer fashion brand Naked Cashmere was founded in 2016 by third-generation knitwear experts Leslie and Bruce Gifford. Building on decades of industry experience the duo created a luxury fashion brand that empowers individuals to feel good inside out, with stylish designs and quality, environmentally conscious cashmere.

Leslie and Bruce Gifford along with their two children Andrew and Alexandra are involved in building the core brand values of responsibility, humanity and diversity because of a deep desire to employ the best practices in every aspect of the business- from farm to finished and packaged cashmere products. Sustainable sourcing practices ensure that the yarns used in their cashmere products carry certifications for being sustainable, fair trade and follow animal welfare guidelines. This- in addition to biodegradable and reusable packaging.

Our ambition is to build a sustainable luxury brand, our approach to every product is simplicity and timelessness designed with exquisite attention to detail, from fabric, to fit, to final production. Everything begins with high-quality yarn spun from noble and natural fibers.

The brand's launch campaign starred supermodel Kate Moss cocooned in an elegant cashmere cardigan. Shot by Peter Lindbergh and created by David Lipman, the famous face endorsing the brand's high standards of quality catapulted Naked Cashmere into a cult staple. The products are not available at brick-and-mortar stores and can only be purchased online. Cutting out the middleman and selling directly to the consumer allowed the label to retail their products for less than half the price which made the highest quality cashmere accessible to everyone.  Moreover, consumers could shop from the safety and comfort of their home with a team of virtual stylists to help make the right choice astride the benefits of free shipping and returns.

Sustainability and social responsibility are core values of the brand. The duo values the importance of being able to trace cashmere from source to the consumers' closet. Naked Cashmere's manufacturers are certified 100 per cent organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard. The goats are raised in organic farms and all of the herders go through an extensive animal-welfare educational program to ensure they are trained and follow standardised combing procedures. Interestingly, Naked Cashmere purchase 100 per cent of the herders' harvest, ensuring that they are guaranteed a regular income. Importantly, the manufacturers keep detailed records of all goats, herders and herd information to trace cashmere fibers from herder to final garment.

With a strong belief in conscious consumption the cashmere brand launched “Cashmere Reborn” for Spring 2020: its first 100 per cent recycled womenswear collection that underlines the brand's sustainability efforts. Constructed from post-consumer yarn that is sorted by fiber length and then shredded and re-spun back into 100 per cent cashmere yarn… this collection allows us to wear the seven-gauge cashmere pullovers- dusters- dresses- tops- tanks- and matching sets with significantly less impact on the environment.
