History
NUS Business School is the leading business school in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region and was established in 1961 as the Department of Economics at the University of Singapore. Students range from over 30 different countries and are provided with an intellectual, stimulating, and insightful educational environment focusing on global business practices, such as how developing countries like Vietnam are building their economic growth. The business school is accredited by AACSB International and EQUIS as meeting the highest standards of education. NUS has forged links with other top universities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia through joint-degree and international exchange programs. They also have a talented, diverse collection of faculty from schools such as Harvard, Wharton, MIT, Oxford, and other schools. The business school’s mission is “to advance knowledge and develop leaders so as to serve business and society”. They also have a vision to be the best business school in Asia, being recognized for their excellence in education and research. NUS Business School has 140 full-time faculty members and a student body of 2,900, including graduates and undergraduates. In 2009, the Mochtar Riady Building was constructed to improve the quality of the educational environment for students. Throughout the facility, a series of informal interaction zones help encourage discussion. Also, classrooms, study spaces, seminar rooms, dining areas, and the cafe are all technological integrated to constantly reinforce the application of newly learned skills. The building was named after Dr. Machtar Riady, founder and Chairman of the Lippo Group.
Courses
The Full-time MBA Program is offered in either a 17-month, 24-month or 30-month schedule and in the areas of finance, marketing, strategy and organization, real estate, and health-care management. The curriculum is focused on presentation and communication skills, networking abilities, ethics and corporate social responsibility, and corporate governance. It consists of 68 modular credits in the areas of core courses management theories. The goal of the program is to develop students’ analytical skills, leadership abilities, integration of multi-disciplinary knowledge in problem solving situations, and global perspectives with a focus on Asian economies. The Executive Education Program is an arrangement of open-enrollment and company-specific programs designed to develop and equip business leaders particularly in the Asia/Pacific region. The programs are offered in Singapore and have an attendance of 24,000 managers from over 80 different countries annually. The Leadership Development Program is a four-day executive education program that provides students with exposure to a spectrum of leadership frameworks and facilitates a reflective experience to their leadership approach within the organization. The program uses a comprehensive 360-degree feedback instrument and a leadership profiling tool to assess each students leadership needs. The core focus of the program is to evolve the role of leaders and enhance their effectiveness, influence, and decision-making abilities.
