It offers personal banking solutions, including savings deposits and investment accounts; home and personal loans, student loans, vehicle finance products, private wealth finance solutions, overdrafts, short term loans, and credit cards; and investment plans and services, financial, and estate planning services, and wills and trust services, as well as professional banking, wealth management, non-resident and embassy banking, insurance, stock broking, and foreign exchange services. The company also provides business banking services, such as business accounts; call, fixed, and flexi deposits; loans and structured solutions; property, asset, and vehicle finance products; value added services; card and cash solutions; treasury solutions; cash management, electronic banking, and merchant payment and support services; life, asset, income and credit protection, funeral, business cover, liability cover, revenue cover, and owners' insurance products; asset management services; and commodities, equities, fixed income, and structured credit products. In addition, the company offers corporate banking services comprising aircraft, asset based, carbon, export credit, global commodity, infrastructure, energy, telecoms, leveraged, mining, oil and gas, private equity, and public sector finance; payments and receipts, documentary credits and collections, guarantees, and trade finance; structured solutions; corporate lending and advances; custodial services; corporate finance and debt advisory services; beta solutions; and corporate and institutional investments. Further, it provides transactional banking services. The company was formerly known as Nedcor Limited and changed its name to Nedbank Group Limited in 2005. Nedbank Group Limited was founded in 1831 and is headquartered in Sandton, South Africa.
History

The bank was founded in 1888 in Amsterdam as the Nederlandsche Bank en Credietvereeniging voor Zuid-Afrika . In the same year, the bank opened an office in Church Street, Pretoria, South Africa. In 1903, the company was renamed to Nederlandsche Bank voor Zuid-Afrika . In 1906, the bank expanded and an office in London was opened. The bank split in 1951, renaming its South African counterpart as Nederlandse Bank in Suid-Afrika/Netherlands Bank of South Africa . In 1969, the number of South African shareholders increased significantly and the company became 100% South African-owned after the Bank Mees and Hope sold 20% of its shares. The South African counterpart was completely independent. The Dutch counterpart of the bank no longer exists. Syfrets SA and Boland Bank listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 1969. In 1971, NBSA changed its name to Nedbank. Nedbank Group formed from the merger of Syfrets SA, Union Acceptances and Nedbank in 1973. In 1986, Old Mutual became the major shareholder of Nedbank.In 1992, Syfrets, UAL Merchant Bank, and Nedbank Investment Bank Division merged to become Nedcor Investment Bank . Old Mutual, Nedcor's holding company, was demutualised and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1999.The new Nedcor Group was formed on 1 January 2003, combining Nedcor, BoE, Nedcor Investment Bank, and Cape of Good Hope Bank into one legal entity. The Nedcor Group was renamed the Nedbank Group on 6 May 2005. In August 2009, Nedbank acquired the 49.9% of Imperial Bank South Africa that it did not own, so Imperial Bank South Africa is wholly owned by Nedbank. In October 2014, Nedbank acquired a 20% stake in Ecobank, converting its $285 million claim in Ecobank into equity.
