The company sells electricity to bulk customers that include electricity utilities owned by state governments/private distribution companies. The company was formerly known as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd. NHPC Limited was incorporated in 1975 and is based in Faridabad, India.

History

Originally NHPC Limited was established in 1975 as National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited. In 2008, NHPC was granted the status of an 'Navratna' Public Sector Undertaking. Over the years, NHPC has established itself as a premier organization in the country for development of hydropower with project portfolio spanning across India and Bhutan.
