Biography

Nik Bougalis is a software engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the field. He is known for his work in blockchain, cryptography, security, software integrity, and storage. Bougalis has worked on a variety of projects throughout his career, including the development of user interfaces, kernel drivers, encrypted distributed storage and backup systems, and consensus algorithms.

Bougalis began his career in software development in 1996, working as a software engineer at Dell. In 1999, he moved to IBM, where he worked as a kernel engineer for several years. He then joined Samsung, where he developed some cool technology before co-founding CodeLaboratories in 2006. CodeLaboratories developed products for PlayStation, Xbox, and other game consoles.

In 2012, Bougalis joined Ripple, a cryptocurrency company, as a Director of Engineering. He worked at Ripple for almost 10 years, leading teams of C++ engineers and contributing to the development of various projects related to blockchain technology. He worked on scaling blockchain systems, developing consensus algorithms, and implementing NFTs into the XRP Ledger system.

In 2021, Bougalis announced his departure from Ripple, stating that he was not joining another blockchain project or company. He continues to be interested in blockchain, cryptography, security, software integrity, and storage and is currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer at Marco Financial, working with an amazing team of technical and non-technical professionals.

Bougalis has also contributed to several open-source projects throughout his career and is active on Twitter and StackExchange. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
