Summary

Organic Basics is a sustainable fashion brand that prioritises the well-being of people and planet. By developing innovative and sustainable apparel, the team promotes environmental activism and responsible living. They have invested in a green European supply chain to minimise waste, water usage and energy consumption. They have also developed an Impact Index—a tool that calculates water, waste, CO2 emissions, chemicals and energy savings by comparing their supply chain to other industry practices.

History

Organic Basics was founded by three young entrepreneurs Mads Fibiger Rasmussen, Alexander Christiansen, and Christoffer Immanuel as an underwear subscription service in 2015 and quickly diversified into a sustainable fashion label with high-tech, conscious underwear designed in Copenhagen, produced ethically in Turkey, Portugal, Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom and made to last with the use of quality sustainable materials.

Mads Fibiger Rasmussen has a background in business development and marketing, is passionate about sustainable fashion and plays a crucial role in shaping the fashion brand's vision and business strategy. Alexander Christiansen has invaluable experience in digital marketing and e-commerce and is instrumental in building online presence and customer engagement. He also shares a strong commitment to sustainability and responsible practices. Christoffer Immanuel brings expertise in design and product development. Together, they have combined their skills and passion for sustainability to establish Organic Basics as a leading sustainable fashion brand.

The team handpicks fabrics based on environmental footprint and durability. They use Class A and B fibers and continue looking for the most responsible fabric and technology available. For instance, they use natural, renewable, recycled, biodegradable or low-impact textiles including eco-certified organic cotton, Italian eco-certified recycled nylon made from pre-consumer textile waste, TENCEL™ Lyocell sourced from central European forests, and Italian recycled wool and cashmere from post-consumer textile waste. Moreover, all products are PETA-approved and vegan friendly except for cashmere and Merino wool collections, which are made from animal fibers.

The eco-conscious fashion brand believes in fair trade. All products are made in factories whose owners have the same vision of sustainability as Organic Basics. They strive for a low ecological footprint, pleasant working conditions, living wage, safe environment, free lunch, childcare and mutual respect. By embracing fair trade practices, Organic Basics has developed an improved brand image, consumer trust, sustainable growth and a positive social impact while contributing to an equitable and responsible supply chain. Plus, the dye house for their cotton has found ways to reduce the amount of water needed to dye their fabric by forty per cent. And, the factory that cuts and sews their cotton apparel reduces textile waste by using efficient fabric cutting techniques and down-cycling their fabric scraps into furniture upholstery.

Few know that Organic Basics is CO2 neutral, which means that they compensate every order by financing the Koru Wind Farm in Turkey. Per Business Wire, “A certified B Corp, Organic Basics is also Global Organic Textile Standard certified and a member of 1 Per Cent for the Planet. The brand has built a strong reputation and following for its use of responsibly, ethically sourced and certified materials, including organic cotton and natural dyes, and its commitment to minimizing its carbon footprint and impact on the planet. More than 75 percent of the materials used to manufacture Organic Basics items are plant-based, while more than 15 percent are recycled…”

So it’s no wonder Delta Galil - the global manufacturer and marketer of apparel for men, women and children, as well as leisurewear, activewear and denim - acquired Organic Basics to bring the eco-conscious fashion brand to consumers worldwide and expand its product assortment to include kidswear as well as additional items for women and men, this year.

“Organic Basics is a digital brand with sustainability and ethical production at its core and these values align perfectly with Delta Galil’s focus on creating a more sustainable fashion industry through innovation,” Isaac Dabah, CEO, Delta Galil Industries said in Business Wire. “We see a significant opportunity to grow the Organic Basics brand globally, particularly in the US and Europe, and to expand the product line to include items for the whole family. Our goal is to sell affordable, sustainable, organic products direct to the consumer.” In recent years, Delta Galil has focused on strategically building its e-commerce presence and investing in its owned brands’ digital offerings.
