History

Origin Quantum Computing Technology (Hefei) Co., Ltd. was established in September 2017 in the Hefei High-Tech Zone of Anhui, China. The company was formed with technical roots in the CAS Key Laboratory of Quantum Information, with the purpose of building independently controllable and engineering-ready quantum computers and developing a complete quantum computing industry ecosystem in China. From the beginning, the company focused on building full-stack quantum computing capabilities, including chips, hardware, measurement and control systems, operating systems, programming software, industry applications, cloud services, security products, and education platforms.

In October 2017, Origin Quantum launched the world’s first silicon-based semiconductor quantum computing cloud platform and released the QRunes quantum programming language. In 2018, the company released QPanda, China’s first quantum computing programming framework, which achieved 64-qubit quantum simulation and exceeded the previous IBM Q simulation record in China. During the same year, the Origin Quantum Industry Alliance (OQIA) was established, and the company’s hardware development team released China’s first quantum computer control system, Origin Quantum AIO.

In 2019, Origin Quantum began providing online education, released China’s first quantum computing learning tool called the Origin Quantum Learning Machine, and launched ChemiQ, the world’s first practical quantum chemistry application system. That year also marked the formal establishment of China’s first national quantum industry alliance. In 2020, the company achieved key progress in biomedicine, launched the superconducting quantum computing cloud platform based on its self-developed quantum computer OriginQ Wuyuan, released an upgraded AIO system supporting 32-qubit chips, and announced the Five-Cloud Strategy.

Between 2021 and 2023, Origin Quantum expanded rapidly. It released China’s first quantum computer operating system Origin Pilot, introduced multiple quantum finance applications, built China’s first quantum financial application alliance, and opened China’s first campus quantum computing science base. It developed China’s first quantum computational fluid dynamics software ORIGINQ QCFD, produced domestic dilution refrigerators, launched China’s first quantum chip design industrial software ORIGIN UNIT, and ranked first in China and sixth globally in quantum computing patent filings in 2022. It also created China’s first quantum VR teaching system, released China’s first commercial semiconductor quantum chip carrier board, and delivered quantum computing services for medical diagnosis.

In January 2024, Origin Quantum launched China’s third-generation independent superconducting quantum computer “Origin Wukong”, equipped with a self-developed 72-qubit Wukong chip and China’s first post-quantum security shield. During 2024, the company connected Origin Wukong to three national supercomputing centres, delivered domestic dilution refrigerators to universities, achieved the world’s largest quantum computational fluid dynamics simulation, exported autonomous quantum computing power for the first time, and supported the creation of China’s first institute of quantum computing and data medicine.

Today, Origin Quantum operates as a full-stack quantum computing company providing quantum computers, hardware, software, cloud services, industry solutions, post-quantum security products, and education platforms, with growing global use and continuous expansion of China’s quantum computing industrial base.

Mission

The mission of Origin Quantum is to make quantum computing useful for real life beyond research laboratories. The company works to build fully independent, reliable, and engineering-ready quantum computing systems that can be used by businesses, governments, researchers, and educators. Origin Quantum aims to develop the complete quantum technology chain, including chips, hardware, control systems, software, cloud platforms, security products, and education tools. An important part of the mission is to ensure that China has its own controllable quantum computing infrastructure and knowledge base.
