History

Pick n Pay Stores Limited was founded by Raymond Ackerman in 1967. He bought four struggling store retailers which he converted into a chain of mass marketers. Pick n Pay began to grow quickly and expanded into different regions. In the early 2000s, Pick n Pay acquired Woolworths, a prominent South African retailer, furthering its success and positioning itself as one of the largest retailers in South Africa.
