A hostel for foreign students accommodates over 30 students, and girls receive rent-free accommodation. Physically challenged students benefit from free education, board, and lodging. The university provides complimentary transport on and off campus.
Under the vice-chancellorship of Prof. J. A. K. Tareen (2007–2012), the university achieved an 'A' grade and significant academic expansion, including 300 new faculty members and 22 new departments, alongside the establishment of new campuses in Karaikal and Andaman. It was ranked in the top 11 Indian universities in the first NIRF ranking.
With the motto "From Darkness, towards the Light!" (???? ?? ??????????? in Sanskrit), Pondicherry University is accredited with an 'A+' grade by NAAC and affiliated with several regulatory bodies.
