History
Safran is a French aerospace, defense and security company that was founded in 1924 by Marcel Bloch as the Société des combustibles atomiques. Bloch changed the company’s name to Société anonyme des moteurs SNECMA in 1945, and then to SNECMA in 1971. The company merged with Sagem in 2005 to become the Safran Group. The company was an early innovator in the aerospace industry, and its products have been used in several of the world’s most successful airplanes, such as the Airbus A320 and the Gripen fighter. Its success in the civil aviation market has allowed the company to expand into the defense sector, providing engines for military aircraft, such as the Rafale, and avionics for the Apache helicopter. Safran has also become a leader in the security sector, providing solutions for biometric identification and authentication, and counterterrorism solutions. In recent years, Safran has diversified into new markets, such as electric mobility and digital services. Safran is now a major player in the aerospace, defense and security sectors, with a global presence and operations in around 50 countries.
