Summary

SingularityNET is a decentralised artificial intelligence (AI) platform founded by Dr Ben Goertzel, designed to facilitate the development, sharing, and monetisation of AI services. Built on blockchain technology, it enables open access to AI tools and promotes collaboration across industries. The platform aims to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that is independent of central entities, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.

The platform hosts a decentralised AI marketplace where developers can publish and monetise AI services using the AGIX token. Services range from image processing and speech recognition to biomedical AI and financial applications. SingularityNET also integrates Knowledge Graphs to improve data management and enhance AI inference and reasoning.

The ecosystem includes initiatives such as Zarqa, which focuses on neural-symbolic AI for advanced language learning models (LLMs), and AI-DSL, which enables AI services to form dynamic workflows. OpenCog Hyperon serves as the foundation for AGI research, incorporating neuro-symbolic AI and decentralised architectures.

SingularityNET collaborates with organisations like Bitgrit and Mind Network to expand its AI capabilities. It offers a $500,000 grant programme through BGI Nexus to support AI and AGI projects. The 18th Annual AGI Conference and HackIndia 2025 provide platforms for research and developer engagement.

Recent developments include integrating Filecoin for storage, enhancing SDKs, improving marketplace functionalities, and refining the MeTTa AGI language for scalability. Subprojects such as NuNet, Rejuve.AI, and Mindplex contribute to the broader decentralised AI ecosystem.

History

SingularityNET was founded in 2017 by Dr Ben Goertzel with the objective of creating a decentralised, open, and accessible Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) network. The initiative was developed to address the limitations of centralised AI systems by leveraging blockchain technology to provide a decentralised marketplace for AI services.

The platform was designed to facilitate collaboration among developers, businesses, and researchers while ensuring that AI advancements remained independent of single entities or corporations.

In December 2017, SingularityNET launched an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) for its native token, AGI (later rebranded as AGIX), raising $36 million in under a minute. The ICO was among the largest blockchain-based AI fundraisers at the time. The funds were allocated to platform development, research, and expanding the AI service ecosystem.

During its early stages, SingularityNET focused on developing a decentralised AI marketplace where developers could publish AI models and users could access and integrate them through blockchain-based transactions. The first version of the platform was released in 2018, enabling AI service providers to monetise their applications.

Between 2018 and 2020, SingularityNET expanded its AI services across various domains, including healthcare, finance, robotics, and multimedia. It introduced improvements in smart contracts, AI interoperability, and data management. The platform integrated with Ethereum and began exploring multi-chain functionality to address scalability and transaction costs.

In 2021, SingularityNET announced the AGIX token migration to the Cardano blockchain, allowing interoperability between Ethereum and Cardano networks. The launch of the SingularityNET Bridge facilitated cross-chain token transfers, improving accessibility and reducing transaction fees.

SingularityNET has played an active role in AGI research through OpenCog Hyperon, an advanced AI framework aimed at developing decentralised AGI. OpenCog Hyperon builds upon earlier OpenCog concepts but is redesigned for scalability and blockchain integration.

The company also introduced Zarqa, a project focusing on neural-symbolic AI for language learning models (LLMs). This initiative integrates symbolic reasoning with neural networks to enhance AI inference and decision-making capabilities.

Over the years, SingularityNET has partnered with various organisations to expand its AI capabilities. Collaborations with entities such as Bitgrit, Mind Network, and Filecoin have contributed to AI development, security, and decentralised computing.

The platform has also established funding initiatives, including the $500,000 grant programme under BGI Nexus, aimed at supporting AI and AGI research addressing global challenges.

SingularityNET has maintained an active community through initiatives such as the Ambassador Program and decentralised governance. The project has hosted AGI conferences, including AGI-25 in Reykjavík, to promote research and knowledge sharing. It has also sponsored events like HackIndia 2025 to engage developers in AI and Web3 innovation.

Subprojects such as NuNet, Rejuve.AI, Mindplex, and Singularity Finance have further contributed to the ecosystem by integrating decentralised computing, longevity research, AI-driven media, and financial services.

In 2025, SingularityNET continues to enhance its platform with improvements in its AI marketplace, SDK upgrades, and the scaling of the MeTTa AGI language. The platform remains focused on decentralisation, AI governance, and technological advancements to support the development of AGI.

Mission

SingularityNET’s mission is to develop a decentralised and open Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) network that is accessible, transparent, and beneficial to all. By leveraging blockchain technology, the platform enables AI developers to share, monetise, and collaborate on AI services without reliance on centralised entities.

The goal is to create an ecosystem where AI systems interact, evolve, and contribute to solving real-world challenges across multiple industries, including healthcare, finance, robotics, and education. SingularityNET is committed to ensuring that AGI development remains ethical, inclusive, and aligned with human values, promoting technological advancement for the benefit of a global community.

Vision

SingularityNET envisions a future where decentralised AI and AGI drive innovation and improve global well-being. The platform aims to create an open and self-sustaining AI network that fosters collaboration between AI developers, businesses, and individuals. By integrating advanced AI technologies with blockchain infrastructure, SingularityNET seeks to ensure AI remains accessible, transparent, and governed by ethical principles.

The long-term vision is to build AGI that enhances human capabilities, supports scientific progress, and addresses complex societal challenges. Through continuous research, strategic partnerships, and community engagement, SingularityNET aspires to shape a world where AI serves humanity without centralised control or limitations.

Products and Services

SingularityNET provides an open and decentralised network of AI services that are accessible via blockchain. Developers can publish AI services on the platform, making them available for users globally.

AI Marketplace: The AI Marketplace enables users to explore, access, and integrate AI services. The platform facilitates secure transactions through multiparty escrow and blockchain tracking mechanisms. Users can find AI services based on categories, assess their features, and test them with free API calls before purchasing services using AGIX tokens or fiat payments via PayPal. Each AI service is displayed with a profile page that provides details, pricing, instructions, and a reputation rating.

AI Publisher: The AI Publisher enables developers to publish and monetise their AI services while reaching a global audience. Developers can manage their AI services, track usage analytics, and collaborate with teams using built-in tools for testing, financial management, and deployment.

AGIX Token Tools: Users can stake AGIX tokens through the staking portal and earn rewards. Staking is available in 30-day sessions, with the option to continue staking or withdraw rewards. The staking portal currently operates on Ethereum, with plans to expand to Cardano.

SingularityNET Bridge: The SingularityNET Bridge allows users to transfer AGIX and NTX tokens between Ethereum and Cardano blockchains. The bridge facilitates a 1:1 token swap mechanism, ensuring seamless interoperability. When moving tokens between chains, a smart contract burns the original tokens and mints an equivalent amount on the destination chain.
