The company was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
History

Smith Micro Software was founded in 1982 by William W. Smith, Jr., and was incorporated in May 1989. In its first decade, Smith Micro's software development focused on the Macintosh platform. In the late 1990s, the company transitioned from primarily Macintosh to include the Windows platform and later, the PDA platform. In 1999, Smith Micro acquired QuickLink, an early modem pioneer, from Boca Research. In the early 2000s, Smith Micro initiated its diversification into wireless and broadband markets. In 2011, Smith Micro announced its acquisition of DataLine. The following year, Smith Micro acquired all the assets of Radialpoint, Inc., a provider of managed services solutions.
